My Khe Beach Surf Guide
Everything you need to know about surfing Da Nang's premier break
My Khe Beach runs for roughly nine kilometres down the eastern edge of Da Nang, from the Son Tra peninsula in the north to the marble outcrops of Non Nuoc in the south. It is an open, sand-bottom beach break that faces the East Sea, which means the sandbars — and therefore the best peaks — shift from week to week after every decent swell. Best Conditions
E to SE swells work best. NE swells during winter monsoon can also produce quality waves.
Offshore winds from the west are ideal. Early mornings typically glassiest before sea breeze kicks in.
Works on all tides, but mid to high tide tends to be cleaner. Low tide can be shallow near shore.
Skill Levels
Great spot for learning! Gentle beach break with sandy bottom. Many surf schools operate here with patient instructors.
Plenty of peaks to choose from. Good for practicing turns and working on your positioning in the lineup.
During bigger swells, the outside break can produce hollow sections. Head south toward Non Nuoc for more challenging conditions.
Hazards & Safety
- •Rip currents can form, especially during larger swells. If caught, paddle parallel to shore.
- •Watch for fishing boats and jet skis, particularly in the morning hours.
- •Jellyfish occasionally present, more common during rainy season (Sep-Nov).
- •Can get crowded on weekends. Respect locals and follow lineup etiquette.
Access & Parking
My Khe Beach stretches along Da Nang's coast for several kilometers. The main surf zone is near Paradise Beach Bar on Vo Nguyen Giap Street.
Free beach parking available along the road. Hotels and cafes also offer parking for customers.
Best Times of Year
Northeast monsoon brings consistent swells. Best waves of the year with overhead days common.
Transitional period. Swells become less consistent but still plenty of surfable days. Warm water, light winds.
Typically flat with occasional small swells. Great for beginners. Water temperature warmest.
Typhoon season can produce epic swells. Check forecasts closely. Some storms bring waves, others just rain.
